17. Amman to Istanbul to Singapore

Today we had breakfast at the Dead Sea, morning tea in Amman, lunch in Istanbul, dinner over Turkey, dinner again in Dubai, breakfast over the Gulf of Oman, lunch over the Bay of Bengal and dinner in Singapore!

We had to leave the Dead Sea hotel at 8am because our flight left 10.50am, and Queen Alia  airport in Amman was an hour away so we had breakfast and one last look at the Dead Sea.

There was the same strict security at the airport with our bags going through two lots of xrays but it didn't take long. It was interesting seeing where all the flights were going to: in half an hour before ours there were departures to Jeddah, Sana (Yemen), Khartoum (Sudan), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), Tunis (Tunisa), Accra (Ghana) and Tehran (Iran).
Most female passengers wore hijabs and niqabs and some burkas. Here's the difference (from left to right: hijab, niqab and burka)

I think we have walked on the tarmac to most flights on this trip, except Singapore and Sydney!

Goodbye Jordan - although this is just Amman.

The flight was 2.5 hours to Istanbul, this is before we flew over the Mediterranean Sea.

Istabul! Strangely I felt like "home", but it was more that it was familiar.

Ataturk airport had memorials for the airport employee victims of the  bombing. The shattered glass was still there but the blood stains had been moved.
We had to go through immigration again, customs and collect our bags to get to the arrivals hall. There was 6 hours before our flight to Singapore via Dubai and Mum was thinking of heading into Sultanahmet because we both love the area, but because things were still a bit unstable Mum decided to stay at the airport.

When we checked in for our flight to Dubai, the Emirate lady was so unbelievably lovely.Mum had mentioned that we were in Istanbul during the bombing and asked her how she was. The Emirates check-in was exactly where the bombers were shooting, and the lady saved herself by hiding under the counter.

When Mum was given the boarding passes, we were also given access to the Business Lounge - so Mum and I toasted our trip with champagne (I only had a sip!) and lots of food - for 6 hours before our flight to Dubai!

We left Istanbul at 7.40pm but because we were travelling east, the sun came up after a few hours.

This is how I sleep on the plane!

Yeah - Singapore .. "home" .. we landed at 4pm. I couldn't wait to have a bed to sleep in, the last bed I had was at the Dead Sea

THEN, I had two days with Bea!!!!!!!
